Graduation

It was 11:45 p.m. on December 31st, 1999. As the clock was ticking away, we were thinking of how many times we had heard the word millennium and now the year 2000 was right around the corner. When the clock strikes twelve, will the computers crash? Will our bank accounts disappear? Will the power go out? We were filled with excitement and a slight amount of fear. We were curious to discover what our futures would hold. As we watched television around the world, any anxiety quickly subsided. It will definitely be a year we will be able to look back on, and remember something significant that happened, not just the numbers 2000.

As June approaches all I can think of is how much the graduating class of 2000 will be missed in our school. If it wasn’t for them we may not have had such an exciting year! I wonder if seniors are facing the event with confidence or maybe a little fear and apprehension, just like the rest of the world was on December 31st.

In June of 2000 the computers will continue to run, the heat and lights will be on, but this milestone will definitely change their lives forever.

I would like to pay tribute to the “Class of 2000.” Maybe we watch movies together, or maybe I just see you in the halls, or we have a class together.

However, I want you to know, I can’t imagine life without you. Over the years I have watched you excel in everything you take on, no matter what it is. You have given us so much excitement in sports. You are the best athletes and the best fans. You showed such sincerity at the welcome home party after the state tournaments and we compliment you. You are exceptional artists, actors and public speakers. We judged flowers together in FFA, played in the band and sang in the school choir. We golf together and we teach Sunday School. You are the role models and idols of the elementary students. You all definitely have a lot to be proud of.

I recently read that, “Genuine friendship is like good health; its value is seldom known until it is lost.” Your laughter, kindness and friendships are not taken for granted.

The future will certainly have more milestones, and more graduations. But, the Rushford-Peterson Class of 2000 will graduate some of the finest people I have ever met. I hope at each school in our area, the class of 2000 made a positive impact. Best wishes to the seniors for success and personal happiness, wherever your dreams take you, because we all know you deserve it.
