George Klema, 91, of Chatfield, retired Libby’s employee, died Sunday, April 16, 2000 at Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield following a long illness. He had resided at the care center since August 1998.
He was born December 19, 1908, in Manson, IA, and during World War II served in the Medical Corps. Before moving to the Chatfield area in 1953, he lived in Manson and Spillville, IA, Harmony, Spring Valley, Preston, and Fountain. On November 15, 1952, he married Myrtle Hanson in Preston. Mr. Klema was a farm laborer as a young man and then worked in the maintenance department at Libby’s until his retirement in 1974. He was a member of the Chatfield American Legion and VFW.
Survivors include his wife; five sons, Dean and Marvin Klema, both of Fountain, Philip Klema of Champlin, MN, Dennis Hanson of Rochester and Alan Hanson of Augusta, GA; seven grandchildren; two great-grandsons; and a brother, Donald of Kemp, TX. He was preceded in death by a son, three brothers and a sister.
A graveside service for Mr. Klema was held Wednesday, April 19, 2000 in Chatfield Cemetery, with the Rev. Eric Finsand officiating. Military rites were conducted at graveside.
Riley Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
