Hans Dammen, 83, of Rushford, a former oil company employee and motel owner, died Monday, April 24, 2000 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford.
Born April 21, 1917, in Whalan, he graduated from Peterson High School and then helped on the family farm. During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps with duty in the African, Middle Eastern and European theaters. He worked for Humble Oil, owned and operated the Medary Motel in La Crosse, WI, for 20 years, and moved to Rushford following his retirement on July 10, 1972. He married Nellie Bennet on November 25, 1957. She died October 12, 1976. On November 26, 1981, he married Velma Himlie and they were later divorced. Mr. Dammen was a member of Elstad Lutheran Church, Peterson American Legion, Rushford VFW and Winona Sons of Norway. He enjoyed fishing.
Survivors include a brother, Andrew (Signe); and two sisters, Clarinda “Lindy” Callway and Lorraine Fann. He was preceded in death by his twin sister and a brother.
The funeral for Mr. Dammen was held Thursday, April 27, 2000 at Elstad Lutheran Church in Lanesboro with the Rev. Rod Nygren officiating. Burial was in Elstad Lutheran Cemetery. Hoff Funeral Homes-Cook Rushford Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
