Eileen Botelho, 90, of rural Harmony, died on Sunday, April 23, 2000 at the Cresco Care Center in Cresco following a long illness.
Eileen was born August 19, 1909 in rural Riceville, IA the daughter of Walter and Winifred (Cashman) Ryan. Following graduation from Cresco High School she taught for several years in rural schools near Cresco. She then entered St. Francis School of Nursing in LaCrosse, WI graduating as a registered nurse in 1944. She practiced nursing at St. Francis Hospital in La Crosse, Veterans Hospital in Chicago, and County Hospital in San Jose, CA. She served one year in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps during WW II. On February 19, 1947, she married Joseph Botelho in San Jose, CA. They made their home there until Joseph’s death in 1962. Eileen then returned to the Harmony area.
Survivors include her sister, Mercedes Ryan of Mason City, IA, two brothers, Roger (Dorothy) Ryan, and William (Dorothy), both of Harmony, a sister-in-law, Marie Ryan, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers, Vincent Ryan, Donald Ryan, and Martin Ryan, four sisters Catherine Hill, Lavonne Addison, Elizabeth Ryan, and Alice Lavonne Ryan.
Services for Mrs. Botelho were held Wednesday, April 26, 2000 at Nativity Catholic Church in Harmony with Rev. Steve Peterson officiating. Burial was in State Line Cemetery. Lindstrom Funeral Home in Harmony was in charge of arrangements.
