Paul Miller, 77, of Preston, a retired mechanic, died Sunday, May 7, 2000 at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester.

Born September 6, 1922, in Fairmont, MN, the son of George and Nellie (Dutton) Miller. He attended a Fairmont-area country school and then farmed with his father. On June 6, 1942, he married Florence Brink in Cherry Grove. During World War II he served in the Army and was a heavy equipment mechanic on Okinawa. After his discharge he moved to Wykoff. The family moved to Preston from Wykoff in 1956. He was a mechanic in Wykoff, Spring Valley and Preston, and after his retirement in 1986 mowed grass at the fairgrounds and City Park in Preston. Mr. Miller was a member of Preston United Methodist Church and the Preston American Legion and VFW, was an avid Minnesota Twins fan, and enjoyed gardening and fishing.

Survivors include his wife Florence; three sons, Edward (Cheryl) and Ronald, both of Preston, and Bruce (Sue) of Rochester; seven grandchildren, Michael, Daniel, and Joel Miller all of Preston, Steve and Mark Miller of Rochester and Eric Rain of Chatfield, and Laura Miller of Mantorville; a sister, Ruby (Ralph) Dimler of the Twin Cities; and a brother, Ervin (Mary) of Eyota. A son, Steve Miller, and a daughter, Gladys Dormandy, and his parents preceded him in death.

The funeral for Mr. Miller was held Thursday, May 11, 2000 at Preston United Methodist Church with the Rev. Anthony Fink officiating. Burial was in Methodist Cemetery in Preston with military rites by the Preston VFW and American Legion posts. Thauwald Funeral Home in Preston was in charge of arrangements.
