George Thompson, age 65, of Spring Valley, died Sunday, May 14, 2000 at the Spring Valley Care center where he had resided for a short time.
George Thompson was born February 22, 1935 in Racine, MN to Roy and Margaret (Westphal) Thompson. He attended rural schools in the Racine area and served in the United States Army. On March 21, 1959 he was united in marriage to Betty Kohn in Spring Valley, MN. He enjoyed polka and old time music, gardening, playing cards and woodworking. He worked construction and retired from O’Connell Construction.
He is survived by his wife Betty Thompson of Spring Valley, daughter Renita (Mrs. John) Mentes of Oronoco, son Steven Thompson of Spring Valley and step-daughter Cheryl (Mrs. Cory) Boettcher of Owatonna, five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, his mother Margaret of Spring Valley, four sisters Susie (Kenneth) Kohn, Peggy (Shearan) Lex, Janice Turbenson and Carol Potter of LeRoy. He was preceded in death by his father, a step-son Gary Bumgarner and a step-great grandson Gary Bumgarner Jr. and two brothers Richard and John.
Services were held for Mr. Thompson on Wednesday, May 17, 2000 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Spring Valley with the Rev. Dennis Timmerman officiating. Burial was in the Spring Valley cemetery. Hindt-Hutchins Funeral Home in Spring Valley was in charge of arrangements.
