Aletha Jeffers

Aletha Jeffers, 88, a homemaker from Chatfield, died of complications from a stroke on Friday, May 12, 2000 at Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield.
Aletha M. Young was born January 17, 1912, in LaCrosse, WI, and graduated form high school there. On October 8, 1934, she married Lloyd Jeffers in Lansing, IA. The couple lived in LaCrosse, and then from 1934 until 1943 their employment took them to many areas. From 1943 to 1960, the couple farmed in the Peterson area, and in 1960 they moved to Fountain. On March 18, 1981, Mr. Jeffers died. In 1996, Mrs. Jeffers moved to Oakenwald Terrace in Chatfield, and in January 1999, she moved to Chosen Valley Care Center. Mrs. Jeffers was a member of Fountain Lutheran Church and the WELCA, and was a volunteer for Fillmore History Center and Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed dancing, embroidery and crocheting.
Survivors include five sons, John of New Hope, MN, William (Carol) of Wabasha, Thomas (Jane) and Richard (Camille) of Chatfield, and Edward “Chuck” (Debbie) of Fountain; a daughter, Judy Jeffers of Coon Rapids, MN; a stepson, James (Maxine) Garvalia of LaCrosse; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Howard Young of LaCrosse. A brother, two grandchildren and a great-granddaughter preceded her in death.
The funeral for Mrs. Jeffers was held Monday, May 15, 2000 at Fountain Lutheran Church in Fountain with the Rev. John W. Sime officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Riley Funeral Home in Chatfield was in charge of arrangements.
