Clair W. Gossman

Clair Gossman, 85, of Chatfield, a former farmer and nursery employee, died Wednesday morning, May 24, 2000 at Seasons Hospice in Rochester where he had been a patient two days.
He was born February 24, 1915, in rural Canton and served in the Army during World War II. On October 30, 1944, he married Ethel Solseth in Preston. They lived in the rural Canton-Greenleafton area until 1952 and then in rural Fountain until moving to Chatfield in 1978. He worked at Snyder Fillmore County Nursery for a number of years and also farmed. He was a member of American Legion Post 2 of Fountain and the Knights of Columbus, served on the Fountain Township Board and had been a 4-H leader.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Rosie Rowland of Chatfield and Carole (Richard) Collett of Fountain; nine grandchildren; a great-granddaughter, and two sisters, Eloise Grebin and Gerturde Ellestad, both of Harmony. He was preceded in death by a son, a brother and a sister.
The funeral for Mr. Gossman was held Saturday, May 27, 2000 at St. Lawrence O’Toole Catholic Church in Fountain with the Rev. Thomas Loomis officiating. Burial was in Carrolton Cemetery in rural Fountain with military graveside rites by American Legion Post 2. Riley Funeral Home in Chatfield was in charge of arrangements.
