Justin Mandelko, age 18, of rural Preston, Minnesota, died Friday morning, May 26, 2000, near his home as a result of a four-wheeler accident.
Justin was born October 1, 1981, in Rochester, Minnesota, the son of Steve and Susan Mandelko. He was raised on his family’s dairy farm and attended Fillmore Central Public School, where he was to graduate Sunday, May 28. He enjoyed football, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and spending time with his friends. He had been employed by John Moore Electric and planned to attend Minnesota West in their electrician program this fall. He was a member of the Preston United Methodist Church and was involved in football, track and weight-lifting in school.
He is survived by his parents, Susan and Steve; one brother, Nathan, at home; special friend, Serena Steuart of Harmony; maternal grandparents, Pearl and Wyman Yaste of Preston; paternal grandparents, Donna and Delbert Mandelko of Preston; paternal great-grandparents, Vilda and Carl Mandelko of Preston; 5 aunts, Linda (Darrell) Nierenhausen, Stewartville, Kay (Don) Brockway, Preston, Wendy Yaste, Oronoco, Joan (Dave) Wissing, Preston, Jean (Craig) Nagel, Onalaska, Wisconsin; 5 cousins, Kathy Riste, Austin, Minnesota, Shawn Brockway, Preston, Jamie Brockway, North Las Vegas, Nevada, Rocky Nagel, Onalaska, Wisconsin, Stoney Nagel, Onalaska, Wisconsin.
The funeral was held Tuesday, May 30, 2000 at the Fillmore Central High School Gymnasium in Harmony with Rev. Anthony Fink officiating. Burial was held in Crown Hill Cemetery in Preston. Thauwald Funeral Home in Preston was in charge of arrangements.
