Dorothy Scheevel, age 84, of Greenleafton, rural Preston, died Wednesday, May 31, 2000 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester of a brain hemorrhage.
Dorothy Bernice Grooters was born May 31, 1916, in York Township, Fillmore County, the daugher of James and Anna (Elfrink) Grooters. She was a 1933 graduate of Preston High School. Upon completion of her Normal School training in Preston she taught in area country schools until her marriage to Kenneth Scheevel on September 27, 1944, at her parents home in Bristol Township. The couple farmed in the Greenleafton area until retiring and moving into Greenleafton in 1983. Dorothy was a life long member of the Greenleafton Reformed Church where she taught Sunday School and was a member of its Women’s Guild. She enjoyed her family, gardening and the life of a farm wife.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth; three sons and daughters-in-law, Arlo and Georgia of Austin, Ellis and Barb of St. Cloud, and Kenric and Karen of rural Preston; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Lavern and Beatrice Grooters of rural Preston and Perlum and Margie Grooters of Harmony; one sister and brother-in-law, Ethel and Everett Vreeman of Spring Valley; and two sisters-in-law, Glenice Grooters of rural Preston and Phyllis Grooters of rural Harmony. She was preceded in death by an infant son; and two brothers, W. Harlan Grooters and Wallace Grooters.
The funeral for Mrs. Scheevel was held Saturday, June 3, 2000 at the Greenleafton Reformed Church of rural Preston with Rev. Dave Simerson and Rev. Jonathon Loper officiating. Burial will be in the Greenleafton Cemetery. Thauwald Funeral Home in Preston was in charge of arrangements.
