Bill Schmidt, 59, of Preston died Sunday, June 4, 2000 at New Prague, MN.
He was born February 25, 1941, at Detroit Lakes, MN. He grew up and graduated from Detroit Lakes High School. He attended Luther College at Wahoo, NE. He served in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1964. He received his bachelor’s degree from Augustana College, Sioux Falls, SD. He taught school in Sioux Falls before moving to Moorhead, MN, where he taught at Probstfield and Riverside Elementary schools, and served as acting principal and taught at Voyager Middle School. He received his master’s degree from Moorhead State University. After receiving his license of principalship, he lived in Fosston, MN, and was principal in Mahnomen and Naytahwaush schools. He was presently serving as K-8 principal of Fillmore Central Schools at Preston.
He is survived by two daughters, Beth (David) Wofford of Seattle, WA, and Sara (Bill) Liska of Omaha, NE; one son, Patrick Schmidt of Glencoe, MN; one stepson, Ryan Kallberg of St. Paul; three grandchildren; his mother, Hannah Schmidt of Detroit Lakes; four brothers, Gerald of Detroit Lakes, Edward (Sue) of Audubon, MN, David (Cindy) of Mapleton, MN, and Richard (Barbara) of Detroit Lakes; and three sisters, Carol (Donald) Welty of Clear Lake, IA, Pamela (Donald) Skarie and Ann (Gary) Fingalson, both of Detroit Lakes.
He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur.
The funeral for Mr. Schmidt was held Thursday, June 8, 2000 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes with the Rev. Ken Vollmers officiating. Burial was in Upsala Cemetery in Richwood Township, MN. A memorial service was held Friday, June 9, 2000 at Christ Lutheran Church in Preston.
