Cherry Grove Cherry Grove will be holding their annual Independence Day parade on Tuesday, July 4th. Featuring bands, floats, antique vehicles, farm implements, and more. Lineup will begin at 9:00 a.m., with the parade set to start at 10:00 a.m. The Cherry Grove Community Center will host a potluck after the parade. To register for the parade, call Bernis at 507-937-3242, or just show up on the 4th.
Henrytown Pastor Audree Catalano of the Henrytown Lutheran Church has been selected to represent the Southeast Minnesota Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America at a Women to Women seminar in Africa. Rev. Catalano will visit Kenya and Tanzania between November 3 and 18.
Canton Raku artist Kathy Erickson has been invited to participate as a juried artist in the 28th annual Minnesota Crafts Festival June 23-25 at St. Catherine's College in St. Paul. She will also exhibit at the Uptown Art Fair in Minneapolis in August. Erickson creates clay architecture and figures using the Raku process, where clay pieces are heated to 1800 degrees in a kiln, removed while red hot and set on fire in sawdust, giving them a distinct smoky color.
Lanesboro Trout were jumping on to hooks at Fishing Day at Sylvan Park in Lanesboro on Wednesday, June 14. Sponsored by the DNR Fisheries Division in Lanesboro, senior citizens and handicapped adults from Freeborn, Mower, Olmsted, Winona, Houston and Fillmore Counties came to the park to catch fish, eat lunch and enjoy a day outdoors. The DNR stocked 1,000 trout in the pond on the morning of the event ensuring a busy day of angling. Lunch was provided by Aid Association for Lutherans.

Rushford Preparations for Homecoming 2000 on July 13-16 in Rushford are well underway. The four day event, which comes around every five years, has many special events scheduled, including Trouble Shooter, The Whitesidewalls, Gran Prix Amusements carnival, fleamarket, hot air balloon and plane rides, and tractor and mini-rod pulls. One unusual event is the cemetery tour, "A Journey Through Rushford's Past." This is a horse-drawn carriage tour through Oak Grove Cemetery where actors will be portraying prominent Rushford settlers and citizens. Homecoming 2000 is still looking for crafters, flea market and food concessionaires. Call Donna Ciangiola at 507-864-2462 for more information.
PrestonThe Preston-Fountain All School Reunion will take place on June 30 - July 2. The three day event includes a dance, parade, golf tournament, banquet and ecumenical church service. There are plans to assemble an all-school choir and band that will perform on Saturday evening following the banquet. Registration will take place at the Fillmore Central Middle School between 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. on Friday, June 30.
o Mabel & Harmony. The city councils of Harmony and Mabel have both approved having the Fillmore County Sheriff's Department provide law enforcement for the two communities. Under the plan, the sheriff's department will hire three new officers to pro-vide patrol coverage for the three cities of Mabel, Canton and Harmony. Canton has received law enforcement coverage from the sheriff's department for some time.
o Wykoff. The Wykoff United Methodist Church will host a vacation bible school from July 10 - 13 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. For more information contact Kelly Kandels at 352-4163.
