Frances T. Spande, age 107, of Mabel, died Monday, June 12, 2000 at the Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel.
Frances was born February 5, 1893 in Preble Township, Fillmore County, to Theodore and Oliva (Aagland) Spande. She attended school in the Mabel area and then went to nursing school at the Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing in La Crosse. She resided in the Mabel area her entire life and worked as a private-duty nurse. In 1991 she became a resident at the Tweeten Health Care Nursing Home Spring Grove, before moving to the Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel in February 1992. She enjoyed quilting and gardening and was a member of the Scheie Lutheran Church and its WELCA.
Frances is survived by six nieces Audrey Smith of Seattle, WA, Judith Hatton of Annapolis, MA, Nora Zien of Milwaukee, WI, Virginia Nelson of Tomah, WI, Olive Johnson of Vancouver, WA, and Barbara Holmen of Decorah, IA. She was preceded in death by four sisters Judith, Olga Solberg, Sphia Blexrud, and Nora Roverud; and two brothers Orrin and Gerhard Spande.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 16, 2000 at the Scheie Lutheran Church in Mabel with the Rev. Mary Waudby officiating. Burial was in the Scheie Lutheran Cemetery. The Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel was in charge of arrangements.
