Leota Michel, 83, died Wednesday, June 21, 2000 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester of respiratory failure.

Leota Austenson was born July 26, 1915 in Preston to Austin and Gina (Knutson) Austenson. After graduation from Preston High School and Normal Training she taught in rural schools in Fillmore County. She also worked in Baltimore, Maryland and at the Mayo Clinic. Leota married Clifford Michel April 27, 1946. They farmed in the Granger area until 1981, when she moved to Harmony. She was a lifelong active member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Granger. Leota enjoyed crossword puzzles, travel and playing cards.

She is survived by her sisters-in-law, a niece, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford in 1981, a twin sister, Leoan in 1993, another sister and three brothers.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 24, 2000 at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Granger with burial in the church cemetery. Lindstrom Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
