Bertha Olness, 85, of Rushford, a longtime area resident, died Sunday, June 18, 2000 at her home.
Bertha L. Woxland was born June 29, 1914, in Rushford Village, grew up in the Rushford area and attended Anderson country school through the eighth grade. She lived in the Rushford and Peterson areas most of her life. On July 6, 1932, she married Joseph M. Olness in Rushford. She worked at Overby’s Grocery Store and Tri-County Electric, did tailoring work, was a cook at Rushford Schools for 15 years and at Wee World Day Care, and was a resident grandma at Country Care Child Care, all in Rushford. She was a member of Rushford Lutheran Church and WELCA, and enjoyed making quilts.
Survivors include a son, Carrol (Doris A.) of Henderson, TN; three daughters, Beverly (Donald L.) Olson of Peterson, Jean (David) Way of Jefferson, IA, and Barbara (George) Hovland of Rushford; 28 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Josephine (Edward) Peterson of Rushford. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, three great-granddaughters and four brothers.
The funeral for Mrs. Olness was held Thursday, June 22, 2000 at Rushford Lutheran Church with the Rev. Roger Knudson officiating. Burial was in East Grace Lutheran Cemetery in Peterson. Hoff Funeral Homes-Cook Rushford Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
