Monica Lorenz-Schulte, age 38, of Mabel, an accomplished artist and devoted mother of three, died Wednesday, June 21, 2000 at the Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel following a lengthy battle with cancer.
She was born July 29, 1961 in Chicago, IL to Frank and Clementine (Reinbold) Lorenz. She graduated in 1980 from the North Winneshiek High School and in 1984 from the Western Wisconsin Technical Institute in La Crosse with a degree in interior design. On December 23, 1994 she married Jan Schulte in Decorah, IA. She worked in interior design and during the past school year taught art to elementary students at the Mabel-Canton Schools. She was an accomplished artist and enjoyed rehabilitating homes, cooking, and woodcarving.
Monica is survived by her husband, Jan of Mabel; three children Tony, Katie, and Alex; her parents Frank and Clementine Lorenz of Highlandville, IA; two sisters Eva (Klaus) Ittner of Barrington, IL and Caryn (Bruce) Buckley of Berwin, IL; and mother and father-in-law Frank and Rita Schulte of Dorchester, IA. She was preceded in death by her grandparents.
A funeral Mass for Mrs. Lorenz-Schulte was held Saturday, June 24, 2000 at the St. Olaf Catholic Church in Mabel with the Father Steven Peterson officiating. Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel was in charge of arrangements.
