Rushford: A well-attended public hearing was held in Rushford on June 26, regarding the future of the city’s airport. Coincidentally, it was the twenty-third anniversary, to the day that the airport was officially dedicated. A MN. DOT study had recently found that the runway conditions at the airport were the third worst in southern Minnesota. Repairs to update the facility could cost up to $250,000 city administrator Larry Bartelson said. The state currently pays 40% of the maintenance costs. After much public input and discussion the city council voted to continue maintaining the airport.
Lanesboro: Clean up continues just west of Lanesboro one year after a tanker truck spilled 7,500 gallons of diesel fuel near the Root River on Highway 16. Every few weeks, water is pumped from monitoring wells and any product found is then withdrawn. Meridian Environ-mental Consultants were hired by the responsible parties to carry out clean-up activities.
