Candidates begin filing for office

The filing period for state, county and city elections for the November 7 ballot opened Wednesday, July 5. Candidates who have filed for elected office at the Fillmore County Auditor's office included three incumbents, First District Commissioner Donald Boyum, Third District Commissioner Gary Peterson, and Soil & Water Supervisor Eleanor Junge.
Also filing last week were Doug Baker of Lanesboro for First District Commissioner; John Ryan of Harmony for Fifth District Commissioner; and Robert Anfinson of rural Peter-son for Fifth District Commis-sioner.
In addition to county-wide offices, a number of cities and school districts will have elections this year. Here is a list of area elections:
Fillmore County - County Commissioner in District one, three and five. Soil & Water Supervisor in District three, four and five (candidate must live in one of the three districts, but voting is county-wide).
Canton - Mayor; two at-large council positions.
Chatfield - Mayor; two at-large council positions.
Fountain - Mayor; two at-large council positions.
Harmony - Mayor; two at-large council positions.
Houston - Mayor; two at-large council positions.
Houston School Board - Four school board positions.
Lanesboro - Mayor; two at-large council positions.
Ostrander - Mayor; two at-large council positions.
Preston - Mayor; two at-large council positions.
Rushford Village - Mayor; two at-large council positions; Treasurer.
Rushford-Peterson School Board - Four school board positions.
Spring Valley - Mayor; two at-large council positions.
Whalan - Mayor; two at-large council positions.
Wykoff - Mayor; two at large council positions.
The filing period for county-wide office expires on July 18.
The filing period for school districts and cities without primary elections is from August 29-September 12.
