Ordell Nelson, 71, of Rochester, formerly of Lanesboro, died of a brain aneurysm while at his summer cabin in Fillmore County on Monday, July 3, 2000.
H. Ordell Nelson was born November 6, 1928 in Blackhammer, Houston County. He graduated from Lanesboro High School in 1946. On December 1, 1951 he was united in marriage to Lois Thompson at Lanesboro. He was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the army in the Phillipines. From 1946 until his retirement in 1987, he was employed by the Minnesota Highway Department. He was a member of the Lanesboro American Legion, Rochester Elks Club, and the Rochester Masonic Lodge. He was an avid reader and enjoyed working with wood.
He is survived by his wife, Lois, a brother Vernice Hoff of Hastings, MN, and a sister Ardis Swinger of Coon Rapids, MN. He was preceded in death by a brother.
A memorial service for Mr. Nelson was held on Friday, July 7, 2000 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Rochester with the Rev. Steven Ronningen officiating. Burial was in Grandview Memorial Gardens with military graveside rites performed by Lanesboro American Legion Post 40.
