Margie Grooters

Margie Grooters, age 82, a long-time area homemaker, died Wednesday, July 12, 2000 at the Harmony Community Health Center following a lengthy illness.

Margie Allene Heusinkveld was born November 13, 1917 in rural Preston, the first of four children born to Ed and Marilla (Shook) Heusinkveld. On April 2, 1947 Margie was united in marriage to Perlum Grooters at her parent’s home. To this union four children were born. The couple farmed in the Greenleafton area for most of their lives. Margie enjoyed gardening, raising flowers, baking, and caring for sick and home-bound neighbors and friends. She was a member of Greenleafton Reformed Church and had been a Sunday school teacher and was active in church circles and activities.

Survivors include her husband, Perlum, of Harmony, four sons Allen (Marion) of Mason City, IA, Richard (Kathy) of Rolla, MO, Don (Lori) of Harmony, and Dan of Minneapolis; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, a sister Beth (Duey) Evenson of Rochester; and two brothers Leland (Pat) Heusinkveld of Preston and Arlyn (Lois) Heusinkveld of Wichita, KS.

A funeral service for Mrs. Grooters was held Saturday, July 15, 2000 at Greenleafton Reformed Church in Greenleafton with the Rev. Jonathan Loper officiating. Burial was in the Greenleafton Cemetery. Lindstrom Funeral Home in Harmony was in charge of arrangements.
