To the Editor,
The Minnesota Department of Health Nursing Home Survey Team spent the week of June 30, 2000 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford. We are very pleased to announce that we had only four deficiencies, and they are being corrected at this time. I want to personally congratulate and commend the entire staff and management team of Good Shepherd on the excellent work they do caring for the residents we are privileged to serve in our community. It is a pleasure to work with a dedicated, hard working group of people like you. I am proud to be associated with you. Keep up the good work.

Here is a big “thank you” to Harmony volunteers! Kid or not, you can appreciate the new changes at the North Park playground in Harmony! The bright equipment, safe conditions and new surfacing are there for you because of individuals and groups who volunteer the precious resource of time. You may never see a Lions Club member go down the slide, City Staff hanging from the cross-way bars, Park Board members spinning on the merry-go-round, or certain adult members of the public bouncing on the duck spring rider. Yet, these are the people who donated their time and other resources to improve our community through this project. We can’t thank them enough! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Come check out the playground! Let us know how you like it! See what a difference people can make! I drive by there just to see children enjoying it and that’s satisfying. Individuals can make a difference in many ways and it sure feels good when you do! Like they say on that cereal commercial, “Try it, you’ll like it!” See you on the next project! With sincere thanks,

To the Editor,
I was very happy to see my good friend win in his heat in the demolition derby at the Fillmore County Fair, but became absolutely appalled when he (and five others) couldn’t make it back into the feature because people swarmed in and blocked the drive. A lot of people didn’t make it back to their seats for the feature because they thought they would have 15 minutes to grab something to eat or use the restroom. Well, 15 minutes turned into nine minutes according to my watch, another reason these drivers didn’t make it back in! The Demo is the largest attraction at the fair, and it is about time the fair board starts making some improvements to the grandstand area, considering it’s the Demolition Derby that brings in the largest crowd! Also, when a person pays $3 to $10 a piece to get in they shouldn’t have to be so packed in that they have to hold their children, let alone have enough room to stand or stretch their legs. It sure would be nice to know where all the money is going year after year, when things never seem to improve! Why can’t we use the funds to build more area for these people to sit? We also need to have a lighted area and speakers out in the pits so the drivers can see to work on their cars, and hear how much time they have left. How are they supposed to hear the announcer from the grandstand, when cars are running out there? It was so packed out in the pit area that drivers couldn’t get back to their spots to work on their cars because of fairgoers cars parked in their spots! I am surprised that no one has gotten hurt or run over in the dark out there! Seems to me that if you want Demo drivers to come to the fair, we had better make it more accessible and much safer. Sometimes I wonder why certain things happen. I guess it just depends on who you are, whether or not things are done fairly. This is a community event, and it’s about time we start improving on the way things are handled when it comes to Demolition time!
