Esther Grose, 98, of Hibbing, MN, formerly of Rushford and Lyle, died Friday, July 21, 2000 at Leisure Hills Nursing Home in Hibbing.
Esther W. Saevig was born September 6, 1901, in Wyota, WI, graduated from high school in Rushford and received a bachelors degree from St. Olaf College in 1924. She sang with the St. Olaf Choir for four years. She taught English and Latin in Lyle, coached girls’ basketball, and taught drama and speech. In 1930 she moved to Clarissa where she taught English and Latin, and directed speech, drama and music. On September 16, 1934, she married Dr. F.N. Grose in Rushford. She assisted her husband in his medical office for more than 20 years. Dr. Grose died in 1976. She was active in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Clarissa from 1930 to 1977 when she moved to Silver Bay, MN to reside with a daughter. She moved to Hibbing in 1987.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary (Richard) Hemmersbaugh of Hibbing and Elizabeth (Thomas) Hallaway of Frontenac; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, and a sister, Alfa Dubbs of Milbank, SD. Three sisters and three brothers also preceded her in death.
The funeral for Mrs. Grose was held Tuesday, July 25, 2000 at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in Clarissa with the Rev. Roy Noel officiating. Burial was in Zion Cemetery in Clarissa.
