Betty Meyer, 67, of Spring Valley, died Thursday, July 27, 2000 at Seasons Hospice in Rochester, where she had a two-hour stay after a lengthy bout with cancer.
Betty Lou Ostendorf was born December 25, 1932, in Spring Valley. She grew up on a farm in Racine and attended Stewartville High School. She married Curt Halstead. They were divorced. She married Wendell H. Meyer on April 6, 1952, at Racine Methodist Church. They lived in Spring Valley for a short time and then moved to a farm in Rock Dell. In 1979, they returned to Spring Valley.
Mrs. Meyer worked at Libby McNeil and Libby canning factory for more than 15 years and at the Spring Valley Nursing Home as a nursing assistant. She was a volunteer at the Spring Valley Community Center for Meals on Wheels.
Survivors include her husband; six daughters, Vicky (Carl) Mancilman of Pine Island, Kim Morris of Owatonna, Jacque (Roger) Nelson of Sargeant, Michelle (Phil) Howard of Spring Valley, Melissa (Kevin) Lund of Spring Valley, and Donna Saied of Rochester; two sons, Gene Meyer of Rochester and Steven (Pam) Meyer of Rock Dell; 26 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a foster sister, Diane Brogan of Byron. She was preceded in death by a son, a daughter and a grandson.
The funeral for Mrs. Meyer was held Monday, July 31, 2000 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Spring Valley with the Rev. Dennis Timmerman officiating. Burial was in East St. Olaf Lutheran Cemetery in Rock Dell. Griffen-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville was in charge of arrangements.
