Monday, August 7, 2000NATIONAL BIBLE QUIZ champions from the Fillmore Free Methodist Church are Stephen, Susanna and Sarah Hopper.
Preston. The 141st running of the Fillmore County Fair was considered a success all around. It was the first year that the Fair has sold out all 3,000 of their Fair Buttons. In addition, sales from parking and from the carnival rides were up. There were around 800 4-H livestock exhibitors and nearly 600 non-livestock exhibitors at the Fair.
Fillmore. A team from the Fillmore Free Methodist Church placed first in their division recently at the National Bible Quiz in Spring Arbor, Michigan. The team, consisting of Susanna, Sarah, and Stephen Hopper, was undefeated as they competed in 17 rounds over a period of four days. Stephen Hopper made it to the final round of Young Teen Individual Competition, where he placed 6th overall. In the championship round, Fillmore won against a team from Butler, Pennsylvania. Bible quizzing is open to students entering grades 5 through 12.
Harmony. There were several block parties and potluck dinners throughout Harmony during the nationwide National Night Out on Tuesday, August 1. The Harmony Community Band, under the direction of Marv Wilt, performed at several get-togethers during the evening. National Night Out is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch as a crime prevention activity.
Spring Valley. Mike Bubany, Spring Valley City Administrator since October 1996, will be leaving his post with the city sometime this fall. Bubany, who will continue to live in Spring Valley with his family, will stay in the public administration field when he begins working with Dave Drown and Associates, a private company involved in public finance.
