Roger Schroeder, 59, of Caledonia, died Wednesday, August 9, 2000, at his home after a nine-year battle with cancer.
He was born December 25, 1940, in Caledonia to Ewald and Edna (Bunge) Schroeder. He attended St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Grade School in Caledonia and then graduated from Caledonia High School in 1959. On August 11, 1962, he married Nancy Hanson at Zion Evangelical Church in Brownsville. Roger farmed in Caledonia all his life. He also was employed at Wieser Steps and Doric Vault Co. in La Crescent since 1985. Roger was a lifelong member of St. John’s Evangelical Church in Caledonia, where he had served on the church council. He also was past president of the Houston County ADA.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy of Caledonia; a daughter, Lori (Jim) Svendsen of West Salem; two sons, Kevin (Sharlene) and Brent and fiance Jenny Reinhart, all of Caledonia; three grandchildren, Ryan and Erin Svendsen and Sela Rose Schroeder; his mother-in-law Doris Hanson-Niebeling of Brownsville; a sister, Dorothy (Vernon) Runningen of Preston; a brother, Curtis (Shirley) Schroeder of Caledonia; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a nephew and godson, Bryan Runningen and his father-in-law, Jerome Hanson.
Funeral services were held Sunday, August 13, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Caledonia. The Rev. Tom Schultz officiated. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Caledonia.
