Charles “Charlie” Gary Lichty

Charlie Lichty, 51, of Cherry Grove, a Mayo Clinic employee, died Sunday morning, August 13, 2000 at Seasons Hospice in Rochester after a long illness.

Charlie was born February 22, 19, in Cresco, IA, the son of Wallace and Arlene (Michener) Lichty. He graduated from Spring Valley High School in 1967 and attended Rochester Junior College for two years. On August 29, 1970, he married Deanna Sack in Spring Valley. He worked at Peoples Cooperative Power until 1974 when he went in to partnership with his father in the Cherry Grove garage, a custom chemical and fertilizer applicating business. He was an active member of the Cherry Grove United Methodist Church, where he had served for a number of years as church treasurer. In 1990 he started working for Mayo Clinic. He was also a part-time employee of Rochester City Lines and drove the Spring Valley commuter route.

He is survived by his wife, Deanna; two sons, Jason (April) of Waseca, MN, and Matthew of Kasota, MN; three grandchildren, Jenifer, Jeremy and Autumn of Waseca; two brothers, Harlan (Cindy) of Hastings and Mark (Mary) of Stewartville; and his stepmother, Dorothy Lichty of Cherry Grove. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and one brother.

The funeral for Mr. Lichty was held Wednesday, August 16, 2000 at the Cherry Grove United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mark Rader officiating. Burial was in the Cherry Grove Cemetery. Thauwald Funeral Home in Spring Valley was in charge of arrangements.
