Donald J. Doucett

Donald Doucette, 82, of Chatfield, died Thursday, August 17, 2000, at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester of complications following surgery. He had been a patient there since August 14.

He was born July 16, 1918, in Sioux Falls, S.D., and lived in Willow Lake S.D., where he graduated from high school in 1935. He attended South Dakota State College in Brookings for two years and then entered the Navy, serving during World War II. On February 9, 1964, he married Jane Johnson in Cannon Falls. Mrs. Doucette is employed by Bob's Food Pride in Chatfield. Mr. Doucette lived in Rochester, Cannon Falls, and in 1962, moved to Chatfield where he lived until 1981. At that time he moved to Lake Delton, Wis., and lived there until 1987, when he moved back to Chatfield. He was employed in hardware sales, was Chatfield city clerk for eight years, and was involved with the hot lunch program at Chosen Valley Elementary School for seven years. He was a member of the VFW and a former member of Chatfield Volunteer Ambulance Service.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, John of Reno, Nev., Robert of Maui, Hawaii, Gerald of Saguache, Colo., and Donald of Chatfield; a daughter, Denise Doucette of San Francisco; six grandchildren; and two great-grandsons. A son preceded him in death.

The funeral for Donald J. Doucette was held Monday, August 21, 2000 at Chatfield Lutheran Church with the Rev. Christine Finsand officiating. Burial was in Chatfield Cemetery with a military service conducted by the Chatfield VFW. Riley Funeral Home in Chatfield was in charge of arrangements.
