To the Editor,

On Saturday, September 16, the Preston Good Samaritan Center will sponsor its 3rd Annual Memory Walk. We are one of over 200 communities in 50 states participating in the Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk. The walk raises public awareness of the effects of Alzheimer's and the alarming increase in our population of victims of this devastating disease. Presently over 90,000 people in Minnesota suffer with Alzheimer's and the numbers are growing.

The Memory Walk is the only national walk-a-thon fundraiser for the Alzheimer's Association. The funds are used to support research into a cause, prevention, and cure of Alzheimer's Disease. In addition, donations support the programs and services the Alzheimer's Association offers the 90,000 Minnesotans with Alzheimer's Disease, families and professional caregivers.

The Preston Good Samaritan Center provides a home to 16 individuals with Alzheimer's Disease. Because of our involvement with these residents and their families, we are sponsoring our 3rd annual memory walk. Our walk is a quiet march nestled among the hills of southeastern Minnesota - a quiet walk that brings our families, caregivers and residents together to create a closeness that you only find in small communities. Our goal each year is to have one more walker and to increase our donation to the Alzheimer's Association, which supports and sponsors many of the programs that our caregivers and families utilize throughout the year.

We invite you and your organization to join the Alzheimer's Association Minnesota Lakes Chapter in the fight against Alzheimer's Disease by making a donation to the Preston Good Samaritan Memory Walk. We need your help to battle a disease which is becoming a national tragedy.
