Mildred Nelson, 87, died Friday, August 25, 2000 at the Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel.

Mildred Sorenson was born July 6, 1913, in Fillmore County. She graduated from Canton High School in 1933, and married Odell Nelson on Aug. 8, 1938. A homemaker, she was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and the Henrytown Lutheran Church. She held many offices in the Ladies Aid, was a Sunday School teacher and an RSVP volunteer for the senior citizens program. She enjoyed baking Norwegian foods at Christmas.

Survivors include two sons, Jerry (Chris) of Mabel and Curtis (Sue) of Canton; two daughters, Marlene Wisland of Canton and Janet Tripp of Mantorville; 13 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a brother, Norris Sorenson of Hoquiam, WA; and a sister, Marlys Scrabeck of Harmony. She was preceded in death by her husband, a sister and two brothers.

Funeral services for Mrs. Nelson were held Monday, August 28, 2000 at Henrytown Lutheran Church in rural Canton with the Rev. Audrey Catalano officiating. Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel was in charge of arrangements.
