5th DistrictI was raised on a family farm in Norway Township north of Mabel. I graduated from Rushford High School in 1963 and attended Winona State College. Since 1965, I have been farming in Preble Township. In 1976, Caroline Kingsbury of Harmony and I were married. We have two children, Carl and Brenda. We are members of Highland Prairie Lutheran Church, where I have served on the church council and am presently treasurer of the bowl committee. I am a member of the Heimbygda Sons of Norway 376, Lanesboro and also a member of Minnesota Chapter #15 International Harvester Tractor Collectors.

I am a farmer who will use a common sense approach to handling the county's affairs. I have no memberships or directorships in any organizations which would hinder me from making independent decisions on county business. I approach this county commissioner job with an open mind and really have no problems with the way the present board of commissioners have been doing their job.

I have been inspired to run for county commissioner because of my parents’ involvement with township government. My mother Lorraine is the present township clerk in Norway Township and succeeded my father Ralph in the job.

I would like to see the county highway sheds remain where they are now throughout the county because snowplows, etc. are closer to where they are needed. I am aware that most farm wives and many farmers are now working off the farm so that the need to get to their jobs has changed the county's needs on snowplowing and road maintenance.
