John Allen Gilbertson

John Allen Gilbertson, 77, of Walker, MN, a retired game warden for the Minnesota DNR, died Saturday, September 9, 2000 at his home near Walker.

John was born December 19, 1922, in Minneapolis, the son of John and Edith Gilbertson. He grew up and attended school in Lakeville. After high school he attended the University of Minnesota. In 1942, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served until 1946. John spent his entire working career, 29 years, with the Minnesota DNR where he served as a game warden. He lived in Rochester, St. Paul, and retired to Walker where he has lived until the present. John married Joyce Saari on June 24, 1974. John enjoyed teaching fire arms safety to kids and was instrumental in developing the program in the state of Minnesota. He was one of the founders of Oxbow Park in Byron, MN. He also enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren and was an avid outdoorsman. John was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Walker, the American Legion, and was a member of the professional fishing rod building association.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce, of Walker, children Mary Jane Klutts (Ron) of Arlington, VA; Mark Allen Gilbertson (Sarah) of Wabasha, MN; Lisa Jeanne Storti of Santa Fe, NM; and Margot Elaine Storti-Marron (Ray) of Maple Grove, MN; and five grandchildren.

Services were held for Mr. Gilbertson on Tuesday, September 12, 2000 at the Thomas-Dennis Funeral Home in Walker.
