Ernest Durst, 69, of Largo, FL, formerly of the Spring Valley and Austin areas, died Friday, September 8, 2000, in Biloxi, MS, where he had been visiting. He had been in failing health for some time and suffered a heart attack September 3.

Born Nov. 10, 1930, in rural Pine Island, he moved to the Grand Meadow-Spring Valley area with his family in 1944. He served in the military during the Korean War and then lived in Austin until moving to Florida in 1984. On Dec. 26, 1956, he married Virginia Wright in Rochester and they were later divorced.

Survivors include two daughters, Michelle (John) O'Neill of Millville and Cheri Dee Harrison of Fountain Hills, AZ; two granddaughters; three brothers, Roger of Rochester, Douglas of Apple Valley, MN, and David of Ault, CO; and longtime companion, Janice Tucker. A sister preceded him in death.

A memorial service for Mr. Durst was held Saturday, September 16, 2000, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Rochester, with the Revs. Linda Helberg and Alice Durst co-officiating. The body was cremated. Interment was in Spring Valley Cemetery.
