Robert 'Dale' Copeman

Dale Copeman, 84, of Spring Valley, a retired area farmer, died Sunday, September 17, 2000 at Spring Valley Care Center following a lengthy illness.

Born Aug. 21, 1916, in Granger, Fillmore County, he grew up on the family farm in the Granger-Cherry Grove area and attended a rural school. On March 17, 1943, he married Elnora Bessingpas in Cherry Grove. They farmed in the Cherry Grove area until 1989 and then moved to Stewartville. Mr. Copeman moved to Spring Valley in 1995. He was fire warden in Forestville Township for many years. His wife, a homemaker, died in 1993. He was a longtime member of Cherry Grove United Methodist Church and enjoyed woodworking, the outdoors and nature.

Survivors include a son, Robert (Sharon) of Rochester; three daughters, Anita (Gib) Fjelstad of Stewartville, and Meriel Copeman and Meredith Copeman, both of Rochester; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and a sister, Parmalee Starken of Rochester. Five brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

The funeral for Dale Copeman was held Wednesday, September 20, 2000 at the Stewartville United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Jef Olson and Mark Rader co-officiating. Burial was in Cherry Grove Cemetery. Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville was in charge of arrangements.
