Ostrander, MN
Comments
Ostrander, population 276, is located on the very western edge of Fillmore County. If you were to visit Ostrander in the summer, you would most likely find a softball game in progress. Fast pitch softball has been a tradition in Ostrander for many years, from peewees to adults.
Ostrander eateries are also becoming noted. If you are looking for pizza, burger, steaks or anything in between, we have it. Main street parking is at a premium on the weekends.
If you are visiting Lake Louise State Park or Forestville State Park we are an easy stop off. Our little city is attractive to many families as we are about a 30 mile commute to Austin, Rochester, or Cresco.
In 1891 the railroad came through what is now Ostrander. A Norwegian settlement located two miles east of here then moved onto land owned by two brothers of Dutch decent, John and William Ostrander. In 1991 we celebrated our Centennial year.
Within the last six years eight new businesses have opened. An eight unit senior housing was built. In the 60's a 50 bed nursing home opened. In the 80's our hall was remodeled through a grant for the aging from the McKnight Foundation, thus creating the Ostrander Senior Citizen Center. This is used by all as a community center.
We are a Little City With A Big Heart, stop and see us.
