Rushford. Earl Johnson and Lois Roberton were named Mr. and Mrs. Rushford for Homecoming 2000.
Johnson worked for the Tri-County Electric Cooperative for 41 years, 21 as its general manager. He is a member of the Rushford Lutheran Church, Lions Club, VFW, and Masonic Lodge. Mr. Johnson has been involved with a variety of service organizations and has served on several boards.
Roberton worked as a registered nurse before moving to Rushford with her husband in 1946. She has been active in the Rushford Federated Club, Rushford Community Clinic and the Rushford Area Society for the Arts. She is also a member of Eastern Star. Mrs. Roberton worked for several years with the Rushford State Bank and also served as city treasurer.
Mr. and Mrs. Rushford will serve until Homecoming 2005.
Preston. Development of the Preston-Forestville Trail continues to move forward. The Root River Trail Western Extension group have secured land options for Phase 1 of the planned trail, which would link Preston, and the Root River Trail, to Carimona. The DNR is expected to begin working on trail alignment sometime in July, with engineering of the trail surface to follow. If all goes according to schedule, construction could begin by the spring of 2001.
Lanesboro. The Art Center Commission has hired an architectural firm to begin work on the site location process for the proposed Regional Art Center. Close & Associates from the Twin Cities are scheduled to begin meeting with the commission in July. Two sites are being considered: the former River Valley Cheese building down-town and the basketball courts adjacent to the Lanesboro High School in Sylvan Park.
Houston. Former legislators Steve Morris and Virgil Johnson were on hand for the formal opening of the Root River Trail extension from Rushford to Houston on July 8. Repairs of the trail, which was damaged during recent flooding, were completed in time for the ceremony.
