Several county commissioner candidates will be on the primary election ballot on Tuesday, September 12. The primary is a run-off election, after which the field will be narrowed to two candidates for each seat.

In the First District, four candidates are running for the commissioner seat presently held by Donald Boyum, of Peterson. They are: - Doug Baker of Lanesboro, Lyle Meldahl of Peterson, Randahl Dahl of Rushford, and Boyum.

In the Fifth District, three candidates are vying for the post formerly held by Robert Underbakke. They are: Robert Anfinson of Peterson, John J. Ryan of Harmony and Marc Prestby of Canton.

In District Three, incumbent Gary Peterson, of Spring Valley is unopposed.

In preparation for the primary election, the Journal asked the candidates to respond to two questions:

1) What are your qualifications to serve as a county commissioner?

2) Why are you running for county commissioner?
