Stella Lee, 86, a longtime Mabel resident, died Sunday, October 1, 2000 at Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel.

Stella Vatland Lee was born on the family farm north of Mabel on March 1, 1914 to Lewis and Caroline (Garness) Vatland. After her early education in the Newburg School, she attended and graduated from the Mabel High School in 1931. She married Byron M. Lee on May 4, 1934 and they resided in Mabel for the duration of their lives. He proceeded her in death on July 24, 1996. Stella served as postal clerk in the Mabel Post Office for 25 years. She was a member of the Mabel First Lutheran Church and its WELCA.

Survivors include a son, Jon (Stefani) of Dallas, TX, a daughter, Judy (Ron) Hustad of Grass Valley, CA; four grandchildren Cynthia Lee Schluter, Erica Lee Brown, Andrew Hustad, and Edward Hustad; five great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers Nelvin, Gust, and Byron; and a sister, Lillie.

Funeral services for Mrs. Lee were held Wednesday, October 4, 2000, at the Mabel First Lutheran Church in Mabel with the Rev. Lloyd Menke officiating. Burial was in the Mabel Lutheran Cemetery. Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel was in charge of arrangements.
