Lorene Holger, 82, of Rushford, died Friday, October 6, 2000, at her daughter's home in rural Rushford.

Lorene L. Haugstad was born on Aug. 22, 1918, in Preston and graduated from Preston High School and Preston Normal School. She married John Holger on Feb. 24, 1940. She taught at Baker, Whalan and Anderson country schools before teaching at Rushford. Mrs. Holger graduated from Winona State University with a teaching degree, and was once voted Rushford's teacher of the year. She retired in 1983. She was a member of the Rushford Lutheran Church, and was active in the church, serving in church circle, prayer pyramid, lefse baking and quilting. She was a member of the Rushford Historical Society and the Retired Teacher's Association. Mrs. Holger loved animals and enjoyed teaching.

Survivors include her daughter, Karen (Dennis) Petersen of Rushford; two grandsons, and two granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her husband and two sisters.

Funeral services for Mrs. Holger were held Wednesday, October 11, 2000, at Rushford Lutheran Church. Burial was in the Rushford Lutheran Cemetery. Hoff Funeral Homes-Cook Rushford Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
