Florence Peterson, 90, of Houston, died Friday, October 13, 2000, at St. Elizabeth's Nursing Home in Wabasha.

Florence A. Desjardins was born June 26, 1910, in Chisholm, Minn. She moved with her family to Marquette, MI, and graduated from Northern Michigan College with a degree in teaching. She also studied physical education and chemistry. She married Donald Leo Peterson on July 8, 1935, and they lived in Rapid River, MI, for eight years before moving to Houston. Mrs. Peterson taught in the Houston public schools from 1964 until retiring in 1975. She entered Valley View Nursing Home in 1990 and moved to St. Elizabeth's Nursing Home in Wabasha in 1999.

Survivors include four sons, Don (Betty) Peterson of Colorado Springs, CO, Bill (Dale) Peterson of Troy, MT, Bob (Mary) Peterson of Champlin, MN, and John (Ann McKenzie) Peterson of Wabasha; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Roy and Ray, both of Marquette, MI; and a sister, Peg Carlson of San Antonio. Seven sisters and two brothers preceded her in death.

A funeral Mass for Mrs. Peterson was held Thursday, October 19, 2000, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Houston, with the Rev. William Kulas officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery. Hoff Funeral Home - Houston was in charge of arrangements.
