Irene ‘Grandma’ Hodge

Irene ‘Grandma’ Hodge, 86, of Houston died Thursday, October 12, 2000, at Valley View Nursing Home in Houston, where she had lived the past 5 1/2 years.

She was born February 5, 1914, in Excelsior Springs, Mo. As a young girl, her family moved to Des Moines, IA, and then to Dodge County, where she attended school. On June 20, 1931, she married Lewis Hodge. The couple farmed in Kasson for a few years until they moved to town. They both worked at T.G. Produce for several years. Mrs. Hodge later worked at a restaurant and also was a clerk at a local shoe store. In 1972 they moved to Houston, where Mrs. Hodge was a bartender in the Houston Liquor Store for than 15 years. She retired after having heart bypass surgery. Mr. Hodge died in 1993.

Survivors include two daughters, Laurel Louks and Mary (Ken) Konkel, both of Houston; two sons, Alfred (Kay) of Kasson and James (Joan) of Duluth; 11 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren.

The funeral for Mrs. Hodge was held on Monday, October 16, 2000, at Money Creek United Methodist Church in Money Creek with the Rev. Lora Sturm officiating. Burial was in the Money Creek Cemetery.
