Vance Knauf

Vance Knauf, 84, of Chatfield, a retired farmer, died Tuesday, Oct 24, 2000, at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester of complications following open-heart surgery. He had been hospitalized since October 15.

Born October 28, 1915, in rural St. Charles, he lived in the rural Chatfield area most of his life and farmed until moving into Chatfield in 1989. On June 14, 1958, he married Elizabeth Rippe in Winona; she died June 16, 1994. He married Mary Horsman on Feb. 14, 1996, in Chatfield, and she survives. Mr. Knauf was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason of Rochester, past master of the Clyde Masonic Lodge, a member of the Chatfield Masonic Lodge, a Shriner, and a member of the Chatfield Eastern Star and St. Charles Moose Lodge.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two stepsons, Charles Horsman of Rochester and Steven Horsman of Chatfield; two stepdaughters, Peggy (Robert) Baker and Julie (John) Laures, both of Chatfield; nine stepgrandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren, and a sister, Merle (Maurice) Burns of St. Charles.

The funeral for Mr. Knauf was held Friday, October 27, 2000, at Pioneer Presbyterian Church in Chatfield with the Rev. Tim Gerarden officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery in Caledonia. Riley Funeral Home in Chatfield was in charge of arrangements.
