Shirley Kappers

Shirley Kappers, 71, of Spring Valley, died Thursday, October 19, 2000 at Spring Valley Care Center, where she had lived a short time.

Shirley Mae Oliver was born June 6, 1929, in Chatfield and graduated from Chatfield High School. On November 1, 1947, she married Melvin "Tim" Kappers in Spring Valley. Mrs. Kappers worked at Peterson's Drug Store in Spring Valley for many years and at Spring Valley Care Center for 15 years. She enjoyed gardening and growing flowers.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Dianne Swenson and Carolyn Shipton, both of Spring Valley; a son, Ronald (Kim) of Spring Valley; four grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; her mother, Blanche (Kendall) Oliver of Chatfield; and two sisters, Betty (Kenneth) Knutson of Marion and Delores (Lloyd) Pappenfuss of Mondovi, Wis. She was preceded in death by her father and a brother.

The funeral for Mrs. Kappers was held Saturday, October 21, 2000 at Faith United Methodist Church in Spring Valley, with the Rev. James Ross officiating. Burial was in Spring Valley Cemetery. Hindt-Hutchins Funeral Home in Spring Valley was in charge of arrangements.
