Name: John Goutcher
Home: Preston
Age: 60
Profession: Retired High School Educator/Administrator
Family: Wife Shirley, Son
Jeff, Daughter Jennifer
Personal Hero: Moses, he took a large group camping for 40 years. Members were irate, ornery, not helpful, but Moses still got to heaven.
Hobby: Guiding Canoe trips into the BWCA, camping, growing Christmas trees, hunting & fishing.
Favorite Magazine: Boundary Waters Journal
Latest Accomplishment: Completing my 42nd year as a canoe guide.
Favorite Quote: “We’ll make it work.”
What I like about living in Fillmore County: Diversity of people, the 4 seasons and changes in weather and the quiet solitude of rural Minnesota.
Fondest Memory: Being one of 45 high school principals in the U.S. selected to evaluate the Soviet Education System in 1971.
Why I read the Journal: Articles tell the story of people who live in rural America. Our values, beliefs and politics are much different than urban or from other regions of the U.S.
