Verneal Ellingson, 76, of Ostrander, a homemaker and former teacher, died Thursday, November 2, 2000, at her home.

Verneal D. Nelson was born July 2, 1924, in Glenville, MN, and graduated from Northwood High School in 1942. After attending courses at the University of Northern Iowa and Luther College, she taught in Worth and Howard counties in Iowa. On March 31, 1946, she married Glen Ellingson in Northwood and they resided in Northwood, Taopi, LeRoy, Wayne, NE, and Port Charlotte, FL, before moving to Ostrander.

Survivors include her husband; seven sons, Mark (Joan) of Halstead, KS, Bruce (Marie) of Union, KY, Grant (Lu) of Newton, KS, Ward (Diane) of Hudson, WI, Clay (Sue) of Moorhead, MN, Jon (Marilyn) of Gretna, NE, and Cedric (Lori) of Harmony; two daughters, Pam (Bruce) Mensink of Ostrander and Janet (Larry) Schreier of Winter Springs, FL; 21 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Two brothers preceded her in death.

The funeral for Mrs. Ellingson was held Monday, November 6, 2000, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ostrander, with the Rev. Norman Bauer officiating. Burial was in Sunset Rest Cemetery in Northwood, IA. Hindt-Hutchins Funeral Home in LeRoy was in charge of arrangements.
