Garvin Benson, 98, formerly of Lanesboro, a retired public utilities superintendent, died Saturday, October 4, 2000, at Stewartville Care Center.

He was born Aug. 15, 1902, in Lanesboro and grew up there. Mr. Benson was employed by the highway department, worked at the light plant in Rushford, and for 18 years before his retirement was superintendent at Lanesboro Public Utilities. He and his wife were foster care providers. His wife, the former Julia Brekke, died Dec. 17, 1979. Mr. Benson resided with his daughter in Stewartville before entering the nursing home six years ago.

Survivors include his daughter, Marilyn (Norman) Pankow of Rochester; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held for Mr. Benson Friday, November 10, 2000, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lanesboro with the Rev. Kerry Eversole officiating. Burial was in Lanesboro Cemetery.

Johnson-Riley Funeral Home in Lanesboro was in charge of arrangements.
