Ellen Pearce, 79, of Crown Point, Ind., formerly of Spring Valley, died Saturday, November 18, 2000, at the Community Hospital in Munster, IN.

Ellen Ione Raabe was born February 20, 1921, in Spring Valley, graduated from Spring Valley High School and attended Tri City Barber College. She served in the WACS from 1942 to 1945. On June 1, 1941, she married Ralph Pearce at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Her husband worked for Hanna Mines in Spring Valley and Standard Oil Co. He died in 1991. Mrs. Pearce was the first female barber in northwest Indiana. She was a member of First Methodist Church in Crown Point.

Survivors include two sons, Ted of Louisville, KY, and Tom of Lambertville, MI; two grandchildren; and four stepgrandchildren.

The funeral for Mrs. Pearce was held Wednesday, November 22, 2000, at Faith United Methodist Church in Spring Valley, with the Rev. James Ross officiating. Burial was in Spring Valley Cemetery. Hindt-Hutchins Funeral Home in Spring Valley was in charge of arrangements.
