Mildred Serfling Ernest 'Ernie' Peterson

Ernie Peterson, 88, of Wykoff, an area farmer, died Thursday afternoon, November 30, 2000, at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester of complications following heart surgery.

He was born May 6, 1912, in rural Lanesboro. On November 27, 1935, he married Estella Hahn at her parents' home in Preston. They farmed north of Harmony for five years before moving to a farm in the Wykoff area. Following a farm accident in July 1943, they moved to a smaller farm east of Wykoff and in 1946 returned to the larger farm. They lived in Wykoff from 1964 until moving to Preston in 1966 and in 1969 returned to Wykoff. He was a member of the Wykoff United Methodist Church, a past president of the Wykoff Cooperative Creamery, a former rural mail carrier, was involved with White Crest Ayrshires and Toppy Hill Holsteins and was a feed salesman. He enjoyed horses all his life and was a past president of the Preston Saddle Club.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Normen (Doris) of Wykoff and Clint (Marlene) of Preston; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Orval of Harmony and Gordon (Deloris) of Lanesboro; and two sisters, Dorothy Berland and Alice (Lynn) Iverson, both of Lanesboro. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, a brother and three sisters.

The funeral for Ernest "Ernie" Peterson was held Monday, December 4, 2000, at Wykoff United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Bob Kandels officiating. Burial was in Wykoff Cemetery. Thauwald Funeral Home in Wykoff was in charge of arrangements.
