Catherine Bakke, of Lanesboro, was selected to serve in Gustavous Adolphus Colleges 59th annual Festival of St. Lucia. She was selected based on academic achievement, spiritual leadership, and involvement in community service at Gustavous. The tradition is celebrated to commemorate the incredible courage shown by Lucia, who according to legend was put to death for being Christian and helping the poor.

Craig Britton, of Preston, is scheduled to receive a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Wisconsin - Platteville at commencement ceremonies on December 16th.

The following local students are scheduled to receive degrees from the University of Minnesota - Mankato at commencement ceremonies to be held December 16th: Robert Goldsmith, Chatfield; Heath Olstad, Harmony; Lori Smith, Lanesboro; Heather Johnson, Peterson; Myrna Luehmann, Preston; and Jennifer Smith, Spring Valley.

Andrew Harstad, son of James and Polly Harstad of rural Harmony, and Michael Gibson, son of Kay Haugerud of Harmony and Eric Gibson of Saginaro, MN, have both completed a varsity football season at Winona State University.Catherine Bakke, of Lanesboro, was selected to serve in Gustavous Adolphus Colleges 59th annual Festival of St. Lucia.
