Lloyd Ober, 85, of rural Chatfield, a farmer and longtime school bus driver, died Sunday, December 3, 2000, at his home.
He was born September 1, 1915, in rural Chatfield, Orion Township, Olmsted County, and graduated from Chatfield High School in 1933. On January 20, 1939, he married Winnifred Draheim at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. She died May 31, 1989. He worked for Rex Harwood Bulk Fuel Co. before moving to Rochester, where he was an auto mechanic, and, after moving to rural Chatfield in 1952, farmed and also drove school bus for Chatfield schools for many years. For a number of years he wintered in Arizona and Texas. Mr. Ober was a 63-year member and past master of the Chatfield Masonic Lodge, a past patron of the Eastern Star and chapter member of the lodge, and a member of the Good Sam Camping Club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include a son, James of rural Chatfield; a daughter, Carol (Dennis) Gunderson of Spring Valley; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and special friend, Vivian Ellis.
A private family graveside service for Mr. Ober was held Thursday, December 7, 2000, at Orion Center Cemetery in Cummingsville, with the Rev. Dennis Cox-Townsend officiating. A Masonic service was held Wednesday, December 6, 2000, at Riley Funeral Home in Chatfield.
