LANESBORO, MN - The Commonweal Theatre hosts The Passion of the Hausfrau -- the next event in its "Commonweal Presents" series -- on Tuesday, October 5th, and Wednesday, October 6th, at 7:30 pm. Performed by Bess Welden, The Passion of the Hausfrau is the hero's journey of one mom who discovers that the roller coaster ride of raising young kids is actually the path to creating her own masterpiece.

Premiering in 2009 at the Portland Stage Company in Portland, Maine, the show has received rave reviews for bringing both tears and laughter to an audience. "Bess Welden made it impossible not to laugh, as she dramatized the trials and hysterical tribulations of motherhood. Kids or no kids, this energetic woman's portrayal of the crazy life and conflicting demands of a young mother . . . is comic genius" (The Portland Phoenix). The performance is recommended for ages 16 and up because of adult language and mature themes.

The show is co-written by Welden, Nicole Chaison, and Annette Jolles. Chaison wrote a graphic novel (of the same title), which chronicles her passion for parenting. For this solo show, she also provides the drawings. The Passion of the Hausfrau is a multimedia frenzy with the cartoons and an original score by Hans Indigo Spencer. Welden calls this production a "living, breathing graphic novel."

Reservations for this limited run can be made by calling 1-800-657-7025, or emailing tickets@commonwealtheatre.org, or by visiting the theatre box office located at 208 Parkway Ave N in downtown Lanesboro.
